Albaola Sea Factory opens its doors for an evening of seafaring, craftsmanship and adventure in the magical environs of Pasajes. Short films, talks, music, artisanal food and drink, all created 100% by surfers… and best of all, you can get there on a boat!

Both the Albaola project and Aventura Oceánica form part of San Sebastián’s European Capital of Culture 2016 programme, and offer a fascinating introduction into the work being done in the dockyard. This unique proposal wouldn´t be possible without the support of Patagonia.

LINE-UP

Tour of Albaola and live surfboard-shaping. Have a wander around the place, take a look at the various tools on display, and admire the San Juan — a 16th century style ship currently under construction — as it nears completion. In addition to this, Sergi Galanó from Flama Surfboards will be working live in the shaping booth, crafting his 99% organic surfboards out of Paulownia wood.

FILMS. 
Kepa Acero and Igor Bellido will be presenting their short film Radical Times in Namibia about their trip to Namibia.
We’ll show an extract from Patrick Trefz’s Idiosyncracies, which follows Christian Beamish as he builds a wooden boat and sails it around Baja California.
Lea Brassy comes back, now with her shortfilm Being There about her adventure in Islandia.
El Dorado brings us The Man Who Sails with Stars.
We´ll host the Euro premiere of The Accord, a shortfilm shown in Telluride directed by RC Cone.

MUSIC. Lee Ann Curren’s band Betty the Shark will play in the early evening, followed by Elena y la Verbena, who have prepared for us a new show based on a key film in our cultural canon.

Last up will be The Mammas, the duo formed by Mario Azurza and Makala.

In keeping with the evening’s DIY ethos, beer will be provided by the Basqueland Brewing Project, while food will be sourced from local producers via Amaiketako.

Come by boat from San Sebastián’s port! The icing on the cake: travel to Albaloa on the boat Ciudad de San Sebastián! It will be a fitting ocean adventure to kick off the evening, and there’ll be music on board.
