"When I was working on my feature film A Deeper Shade Of Blue about 6 years ago I had the honour of interviewing Tom Morey, the wonderful, beautiful, inspiring eccentric creator of the Morey Boogie Board. While recording it, I was so excited inside to hear the story of how he came up with the idea to make a modern day version of the ancient Hawaiian paipo board. When I asked him how he came up with the name I could hardly believe my ears. Early this year as I was cleaning out my computer I came across this interview that didn’t make the cut in ADSOB and felt like I needed to share it with the world. A young lady named Jane Ensor came into my world wanting to learn a bit about film making so I gave her the interview and asked her to cut it into a little story. Once done it was time to set some images to it. I gave her a hard drive with a large selection of images I’d shot over many years and the result is a little calibration between Jane and myself, SPACE IS THE PLACE, The Boogie Man.
This little film is my humble tribute to Tom Morey and the wonderful joy he has brought into the world when you think how many people have ridden a boogie. Aloha. Jack."
