"Homeland", a short film about Basque culture and its language, directed by Cyrus Sutton and driven by Etxepare Basque Language Institute

"Homeland", a short film about Basque culture and Basque language, driven by Etxepare Basque Institute and directed by the celebrated director Cyrus Sutton, was selected by the London Surf Film Festival and was premiered in the UK on November 3. As of today, November 4th it is also available at Korduroy.tv

After its world premiere in June at Surfilmfestibal, and the screening at Smash Film Festival in New York, Homeland has travelled around the U.S. and Europe as part of the Compassing Tour, accompanying Cyrus Sutton’s latest production. Sutton is the founder of Korduroy.tv, the largest independent surf and video platform. More than 2,000 people have enjoyed this trip through the Basque Country, its culture and its waves in Sopelana, Zarautz, Anglet and Hossegor, in the iconic La Paloma Theater of Encinitas (California), Newport Beach (Orange, California) or New York.

Back in Europe, Homeland was screened last Sunday at the third edition of the London Surf Film Festival, which takes place at Riverside Studios. The documentary is now available on Korduroy.tv and the web sites of Surfilmfestibal and Etxepare Basque Institute.

The next stop will be Brussels, in the framework of the "Fenêtre Ouverte dans le Pays Basque", which features Basque culture. It is a festival organized by Etxepare Basque Institute and the Federation of Young Musicians Wallonie-Bruxelles to celebrate this year´s Basque Language Day (December 3).

Homeland is a 11 minute documentary film on the nature, gastronomy, tradition, art, sea in the Basque Country ... and the best Mundaka session of this winter. Recorded over 15 days between Biarritz and Bilbao, the film aims to represent our country, its people and the modern relationship with the sea through the surf. During this trip they also filmed Basque Holiday, a 3 minutes short film with the best surfing that went on during the days of Cyrus Sutton and Ryan Burch’s visit.

Homeland and  Basque Holiday are the two pieces directed by the Californian filmmaker to celebrate the 2013 Basque Day, with the support of Etxepare Basque Institute. Their aim is to associate Euskadi with surfing, using the surf as a modern symbol of exchange, offering a new way of expanding our culture and our language all around the world.
