TRUE CINEMA
Once again, a session that underlines independence: stories that go under the radar of the big global surf media, as well as the mainstream surf industry. Two different takes of Brazil, a young Pataxo Indian’s relationship with the surf, a rabidly modern film. Loïc Wirth brings us close to the most contemporary surfing, a precise, precious way of presenting it, placing it at the very top of the world’s best.
Real cinema and exploration of new formats, new ways of telling stories that went unnoticed before the net was there to bring them to us. This is the case of Korduroy.tv, a project by Cyrus Sutton the home-made-surf platform of our times, a way to look at the world through avant-garde values that go well beyond market sustainability.
BIG WAVES: PADDLING vs Tow In
Today, the elite of big wave riders in the world consider paddling as the most genuine way of catching hige waves. It all became quite clear after some epic sessions in Jaws this last winter, where towing in is no longer the main option in waves that were formerly considered impossible to surf by paddling. We are stoked to present the WORLD PREMIERE of a documentary film that tells all about this issue: from well stablished riders to amped teenagers who surf waves like mountains. Also, a little taste of Mavericks, some magic waves in Rapa Nui, brought to us by Rodrigo Farias, a good Chilean friend of Surfilmfestibal, teller of the country’s contemporary surfing history, who has greatly contributed to place Chile and its waves on the map of the most outstanding waves in the world.
